Summer Lab 2024

Thank you for being here! We LOVE you already.

What is ‘Summer Lab: Dancing with Dreamers, Rebels, and Change Makers?’

Expanding the arts and sciences of loving through an experience of belonging and being rooted into community with fellow dreamers, rebels and changemakers in the movement arts and somatic fields.

Through daily movement explorations, RB somatic technologies, creative process and conversations we move through embodied practices that affirm our body's inherent wisdom and biological optimism. This is a space for creatives, choreographers, movers, dancers, critical thinkers, somatic practitioners, arts educators, and those in medicine and/or medical humanities.

We believe in Radical Inclusivity and welcome radical bodies with various adaptive abilities into the experiences with equity and skills for meeting individual needs. We culminate the workshop with a 'Show and Share' that invites our community members to join us as a collective witnessing space for the dancing, embodied stories and shared knowledge created during the summer intensive.

The intensive is led by holly johnston who brings a deep understanding of embodiment processes related to identity formation and is co-facilitated with RB Certified Practitioners as teaching assistants.

“Holly understands the body and people from the depth of her being. She moves, teaches and guides from connection, compassion, love and a deep respect for people. She's real and that honesty immediately invites you to let down your guard and leave all of the pretending, trying, struggling at the door. Her seeing of me allows me to understand myself in ways that I never thought were possible. I began working with her pre-covid and a good part of our sessions together were movement and touch based. A choreographer, a woman of color, a mother, an adoptee, a teacher, she comfortably embodies her own complexity and intersectionality, which allows her to hold space for the complexities of others, our society and the world. It is one of her super powers and it invited me to immediately feel open and trust her. She is a master artist with her own body/being as her primary tool, and has helped me let go and release physically, emotionally and vibrationally in ways that have impacted all areas of my life. I recently began working with her again virtually (to be covid safe) and the majority of our sessions are now speaking, breathing with some movement, and the profound difference it has made for me each week has been mind blowing. I feel heard, seen, understood and emboldened with new tools and ideas on how to more powerfully move through my life. My partner has commented that when I come out of a session with Holly, I seem to be floating. Working with her each time makes me feel less tangled up and truly expansive.”
